I don’t know what media revolution we talk about these days. Is it really a revolution? I suppose revolution should be for the better. But, forget about doing something good, this is becoming worse day by day. Whenever I switch on the TV, they are always reporting about some murder, some rape or some wrong doing in this world. “Are there no positive things happening in this world?” this is the question I would like to ask these people.
And, no matter how much we try to neglect it, believe it or not, it does play some part in shaping our subconscious mind. If we are constantly projected to all the negative things in this world, we tend to follow the same path and become pessimistic. I believe these channels should strive to make the world a better place to live by instilling a sense of brotherhood and peace in the common man’s mind. But, are they doing these things? I don’t think so.
The freedom granted to the media should be utilized for betterment of the society. Especially in a country like ours, which is full of problems and hence the scope for improvement is immense. Bad infrastructure, no urge to make things better, selfish governance, lack of vision, too slow procedures and processes, and many more such problems need attention immediately. And the media can play their part and try and force the concerned to make things better. Let me give one example.
Recently, TOI had reported that many projects taken up by Indian Railways are delayed, some by years and some by decades. This not only wastes money, but also the planning becomes outdated so that by the time the project shapes up, it is already insufficient. Is it not the responsibility of the media to follow up with the concerned officers and make sure that they complete the promises in time? If these officials are asked questions on a regular basis, even they will realize that they are answerable to the people. But I don’t think media is interested in this. I believe they are more interested in what Sanjay Dutt had for lunch in the jail and with whom Kareena is going around these days.
But then, I’ve managed to remain optimistic still. I hope the soon-to-be-launched news channels do not follow the same path and earn some respect in the eyes of the common man.
